LISETTA DERNER
Lisetta, daughter of Emil and Wilhelmine (Goettsch) Sinow, was born March 8, 1896 in Iowa Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended school in Aspinwall.

On June 6, 1917, Lisetta was united in marriage with John H. Derner at Carroll. Five children, Merlin, Iona, Roland, Arletta and Colleen, were born to this union. Lisetta and her husband farmed near Botna; later they moved to their own farm east of Manilla. In 1951 they moved to Manning.

Lisetta continued to make her home in Manning after her husband's death in 1970. She suffered a fall and was taken to Manning General Hospital. Her condition worsened and she died there on Friday afternoon, October 8, 1993, at the age of 97 years and 7 months.

Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: William, Emil, and Herbert; a grandson, Steve; and a son-in-law, Mack Carter.

Survivors include her children: Merlin Derner and his wife, Doris, of Spokane, Washington; Iona Carter, of Clinton; Roland Derner and his wife, Laura, of Manilla; Arletta and her husband, Gail Christiansen, of Spokane, Washington; and Colleen and her husband, Lyle Eich, of Rogers, Arkansas; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Lisetta was a member of Zion Lutheran congregation in Manning and of the Ladies Guild. She also held membership in the VFW Auxiliary.

Services were held on Tuesday, October 12, 1993, at 2:00 p.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa, with the Pastor Robert Riggert officiating.

Musical selections included "I'm But A Stronger Here", "How Great Thou Art" and "Abide With Me" with Paula Weiss as organist.

Honorary pallbearers included Bruce Eich and David Christiansen.

Pallbearers included John Ostrand, Dennis Carter, Ronald Carter, Milton Sinow, Jim Sinow, and Roger Sinow.

Ohde Funeral Home in Manning was in charge of the arrangements.
