Lonnie, son of Clarence August and Maurine Glendola (Andresen) Barten, was born November 12, 1942, in Manning, Carroll County, Iowa. On November 18, 1942, he was baptized at home in Manning.

Lonnie lived at home until 1948 when he moved to Glenwood State School and then to the Lake View Manor. In 1982 he moved to New Hope Village in Carroll. While at New Hope Village, he enjoyed ceramics, embroidery, dancing, washing cars, fishing, playing basketball, softball, and golf. Lonnie excelled in track and field with the Special Olympics. He loved watching sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes. Lonnie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and enjoyed attending services.

In 1995, Lonnie moved to the Manilla Manor Nursing Home where he died on January 25, 1998. He reached the age of 55 years, 2 months, and 13 days.

Besides his father, Lonnie was preceded in death by three uncles: Carl Wiese, Lester Andresen, and Ernest Barten; one aunt, Velma and her husband, Mayer Knudson.

He is survived by his mother, Maurine Barten, of Manning; three aunts: Lillian Andresen, of Manning; Leona Wiese, of Irwin; Eleanor Kinney, of Tucson, Arizona; and by several cousins and many friends.
