LORRAINE GRUHN
Lorraine, daughter of James and Sophia (Grau) Rothfolk, was born August 13, 1918, on the home farm in Audubon County, Iowa. She attended rural schools and then worked at various jobs as a young woman. On September 8, 1943, she was united in marriage with Henry William Gruhn in Manning. In June of 1948, Lorraine was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning. She and Henry farmed until 1968 when they moved into Manning. After they moved into town, Lorraine worked at Manning General Hospital and Plaza, Manning School system, and finally L.R. Nelson, where she retired. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and VFW Auxiliary.

In the summer of 1994, Lorraine's health worsened and in December of that year she entered St. Anthony Nursing Home, Carroll, Iowa, to be nearer dialysis treatment. She died there rather unexpectedly on Monday, September 9, 1996, at the age of 78 years and 28 days.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents and twin daughters, Janet and Joan, in infancy in 1953.

She is survived by her son, Fred Gruhn and wife, Mary, Manning; her daughter, Nancy and husband, Bob Evans, Decorah; 8 grandchildren Michael Gruhn, and wife, Sue, Manning; Lisa and husband, Steve Tank, Manning; Sue Ann and husband, Pat Gehling, Arcadia; Matthew Gruhn and wife, Moni, Johnston; John Gruhn, Manning; Rebecca Gruhn, Iowa City; Heather Evans, Decorah, Zach Evans, Decorah; 5 great-grandchildren: Noah, Ericka, and Jacob Tank; Brooke Gruhn; Brandon Dentlinger; 4 sisters: Elda Barten, Audubon; Eileen Mundt, Manning; Delores and husband, William Fastje, Denison; Mary Ann and husband, Spence Birchard, Cathedral City, California; and 1 brother, Norman Rothfolk and wife, Mary Jane, Grimes; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Services were held Wednesday, September 11, 1996, at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa. Officiating the service was Pastor Robert Riggert and Pastor Curt Dwyer. Music was provided by Carlys Stribe, organist for songs "Rock of Ages", "What A Friend We Have in Jesus", and "Beautiful Savior". Casketbearers were Matthew Gruhn, Michael Gruhn, Steve Tank, John Gruhn, Roger Barten and Pat Gehling. Honorary casketbearers were Lisa Tank, Rebecca Gruhn, Sue Gehling, Heather Evans, and Zach Evans. Interment was in the Manning City Cemetery in Manning, Iowa.
