Funeral services for Lorraine Knop Kruse were held Thursday, September 9, 1999, at 10:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa. Pastor Daniel Vogel and Pastor Curt Dwyer officiated the service.

Interment was held Thursday, September 9, at 2:00 a.m. at Southlawn Memory Gardens, Atlantic, Iowa with Jason Sothman, David Kruse, Mike Peterson, John Peterson, Lynn Phillips, and Russell Stribe as casket bearers.

Honorary casket bearers were Melissa Sothman, Jocelyn Knop, Tabitha Knop, Tiffany Knop, Kenzie Knop Alayna Knop, Angela Ahrens, Michele Kruse, Chad Buffington, Jason Buffington, Ann Peterson, Mary Peterson.

Doris Lorraine, daughter of George and Mary (Davis) Gaulke, was born August 8, 1922, at home in Atlantic, Iowa. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and sang in the church choir. Lorraine attended school in Atlantic and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1940. Following graduation, she worked at Atlantic Wholesale House.

On September 1, 1946, Lorraine was united in marriage with Leslie Knop at the Presbyterian Church in Atlantic. They farmed west of. Atlantic where Lorraine was a homemaker and mother to the four boys born to this union. Lorraine became a member of Zion Lutheran Church in 1949. After the death of Leslie in June of 1967, Lorraine moved into Atlantic.

On August 2, 1969, Lorraine was united in marriage to Roy Kruse at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. They made their home on a farm west of Manning and enjoyed traveling during their life together. Roy died in July of 1981. Lorraine stayed on the farm until the fall of 1993 when her eyesight began to fail which forced her to move into town.

Lorraine was active in all aspects of community service organizations. She was past president of Manning Hospital Auxiliary and active in quilting, braille translation, and other activities at church. She enjoyed going on picnics, playing bridge, and traveling. During the past fifteen years, she and her special friend, Willie Hoffmann, have shared many special times together.

In January of 1999, Lorraine's health began to fail, and she died late Monday evening, September 6, 1999, at Manning Regional Healthcare Center, at the age of 77 years and 29 days.

Besides both husbands, Lorraine was preceded in death by her father, a son Alan Knop, and a sister Helen Marie Sprague.

Lorraine is survived by her special friend, Willie Hoffman of Manning; children: Kenny Knop of Woodland Park, Colorado; Clark Knop and wife Linda of Atlantic; Tom Knop and wife Mindy of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Doug Kruse and wife Maralee of Grinnell; Bette and husband Don Peterson of Omaha, Nebraska; and Bonnie and husband Ray Buffington of Roundup, Montana; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; mother Mary Shane of Manning; sister Louise Fonua of Renton, Washington; daughter-in-law Patti Watt of Aurora, Colorado; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Earl "Whitey" Sprague of San Benito, Texas; Robert and Mary Kruse of Manning, IA; Ruth Knop Jensen of Atlantic; Raymond and Ardis Knop of Atlantic; and Eleanor Tibken of Atlantic; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.


Lorraine Kruse is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
