Louie H. Hammer, son of Henry and Louise (Kruse) Hammer was born on April 21, 1895, at Manning, IA. He started his education here and moved to Moody County with his parents in 1911. He farmed with his father and entered the Army during World War I. After his discharge he returned to Moody County. He was married to Marie Tollgaard on Sept. 24, 1919, and they continued to farm until 1946 when the family moved into Flandreau. In 1948 he started working at the DX gas and bulk station, retiring in 1964. Afterwards he was custodian at Our Savior's Lutheran church for many years. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, was a former church trustee, and a member of the Kelly-Porter American Legion Post for 61 years.
SURVIVORS
He is survived by his wife Marie; one son Donald, Tampa, Fla.; two daughters, Edna, Mrs. Joe Bragstad, Garretson and Gladys, Mrs. Francis Kreber, Flandreau; 11 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents,
four brothers, two sisters.
