Louisa Christine Joens, 86, died Tuesday, June 7, at the Manning General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 10, at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with the Rev. Dennis Johnson, minister of First Presbyterian church, officiating. Connie Siepker will be organist and Ray Pratt vocalist. Burial will be in the Manning cemetery.

Casketbearers will be Bradley Joens, Brian Joens, Merlin Rostermundt, Amos Lohmeier, Willis Lohmeier, Fred Lea, and Bernard Olberding.

Mrs. Joens is survived by two sons: Lyle and his wife Judy, Manning, and Roland Joens, Walla Walla, Washington; six grandchildren: Jerry, Martin, Jeffrey, and Traci, Walla Walla, Washington; Brian, Los Angeles, California; and Bradley, Manning; two sisters: Mrs. Alice Grau, Manning, and Mrs. Albert (Arlene) Musfeldt, Manning; a brother, Ray Lohmeier, Council Bluffs; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a daughter-in-law, Mrs. Roland (Bonnie) Joens, and two brothers, Henry and John Lohmeier.

Mrs. Joens was born January 30, 1897, in Warren Township, Carroll County, a daughter of John William and Mary Ann (McElwaine) Lohmeier. She attended rural schools near her home. Before her marriage, she worked as a housekeeper in Omaha, at Kuhl's Sunset Dairy in Manning, and attended Snow's Dressmaking College in Manning.

On May 30, 1917, she was married to Henry Joens at the Lutheran Church in Manilla with the Rev. H. Wendt officiating.

They farmed in Crawford, Carroll, and Shelby Counties until his death on April 14, 1951. She moved to Manning in 1952 and worked at various places in the area, retiring in 1959. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church.
