Louise (Kruse) Hammer

Funeral services were held ---missing text--- day afternoon at the Presbyterian Church, where the Rev. ---missing text--- Knox Ford was in charge of the services. Interment was made in Union Cemetery, Flandreau.

Born as Louise Kruse, in Holstein, Germany, on March 22, 1857, she came to the United States with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Chris Kruse, in 1883. Two brothers and one sister completed the family which then immigrated to the new land. They settled in Clinton county, Iowa, where, on June 7, 1884, she was married to Henry Hammer. They resided on a farm in that community for four years, then moved to Crawford County, Iowa, locating near Manning, and in 1911 to Moody County. Their residence was on the farm until March 1, 1920, when they moved to Flandreau to retire from active duties.

Mrs. Hammer leaves to mourn her passing the husband, five sons and two daughters. The sons are Willie and Charley, of Elkton; Louie and Emil, who live in the Flandreau vicinity, and Herman, living at home. The daughters are Mrs. Herman (Mamie) Schroeder and Mrs. Peter (Nellie) Gehlsen, of Elkton. Other survivors include a brother living in Clinton County, Iowa, eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, together with other relatives.

Relatives and friend who came from distant points to attend last rites for Mrs. Hammer included Fritz Hammer, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Brusch, Franz Hammer, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Schwartz, Mrs. Roy Wagner, Fred Hammer and Henry Hammer of Bloomfield, Nebraska; Mrs. Fogarty and son William, and Mrs. Connelly of Brookings; Mr. and Mrs. Hans Bowmann, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Besseler, Mr. and Mrs. Erie Schroeder of Elkton.
