Lucille May Campbell

Funeral services for Lucille May Campbell were held Saturday, August 21, 1993 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Irwin, Iowa. Reverend Joseph Boysen officiated the service with Ruth Ann Barry as organist and Milton Barry as vocalist. Interment was held in Manning City Cemetery, Manning, Iowa, with Lyle Christensen, Wayne Justice, Howard Clark, Dick Clark, Vyrl Cadwell and Vernon Campbell as casketbearers.

Lucille, daughter of Daniel A. and Della Gertrude Smith Wilson, was born June 27, 1908, in Jefferson Township, Shelby County, Iowa. She attended Irwin schools and was graduated with the class of 1926. Lucille attended Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls for two years. She then taught school in Aurelia and Odebolt and in rural schools near her home in Shelby County.

On November 24, 1935, Lucille was united in marriage with Thomas Campbell. One son, John, was born to this union. Lucille and her husband made their home on a farm near Botna, Iowa. Lucille stayed on the farm after her husband's death in 1972. She died unexpectedly at her home on Monday, August 16, 1993, at the age of 85 years, 1 month and 20 days.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Harold Wilson; and a sister, Irene Moody.

Survivors include her son, John Campbell and his wife, Joyce, of Denison; two grandsons: Joseph Campbell and his wife, Karla, and their son, Adam, of Clarksville, Iowa, and James Campbell of Denver, Colorado; cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Lucille was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Irwin and of the WSCS. She was a member of other clubs and organizations including the Shelby County Rural Teachers Association and the Tri-County Social Club. She enjoyed traveling to Florida in the winter months and gardening on her farm in the summer.


Lucille Campbell is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
