LUCY MAGDALEN IRLMEIER

Funeral service for Lucy Magdalen Irlmeier of Manning will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 12, 2005, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning.

Mrs. Irlmeier, 87, died Tuesday, February 8, at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll.

The Rev. Andrew Hoffmann will officiate the service. Lector will be Gene Langel. Eucharistic minister will be Jane Chavez. Gift bearers will be Dr. Jacqueline Garcia, Joelle Bogatz, and Brett Stempel. Servers will be McKaylie Croghan and Trista Wurr.

Casket bearers will be Wayne Eich, Donald Eischeid, Charles Eich, Dan Schenkelberg, Tom Loughran, and Loran Sporrer.

A rosary was prayed this afternoon at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 tonight at the funeral home.

A daughter of Charles and Anna (Reinart) Eich, she was born June 26, 1917, at Halbur and attended St. Augustine Catholic School there through the eighth grade.

She and Leo Irlmeier were married September 10, 1940, at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Halbur.

The Irlmeiers farmed in Iowa and Minnesota for many years. Mrs. Irlmeier was a homemaker and later, after returning to Iowa, worked at Nelson Factory in Manning.

After her children were grown, she worked as a cook at Manning Hospital for 10 years and retired in 1983.

Mrs. Irlmeier was a member of Sacred Heart Church and active in its Alter Society. She also belonged to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, enjoyed playing cards and bingo, and traveled extensively to visit her children and grandchildren.

She moved to St. Anthony Nursing Home in November 2004.

Survivors include eight children: Judy Merickel and her husband, Dr. Joe, of Alexandria, Minnesota, Joyce Albers and her husband, Milton, of Plymouth, Minnesota, Jane Chavez and her husband, Larry, of Pinetop, Arizona, Joleen Wess of Mesa, Arizona, Lynn Irlmeier of Korea, Sue Bogatz and her husband, Richard, of Omaha, Nebraska, Roxie Stempel and her husband, Steve, of Platte City, Missouri, and Jeffrey Irlmeier and his wife, Sharon, of O'Fallon, Missouri; 19 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; five sisters: Sister Mary Ricarda of Dubuque, Evelyn Langel of Templeton, Sally Schenkelberg of Carroll, Kay Loughran of Breda and Mildred Sporrer of Manning; and other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Irlmeier was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo, in January 1981; twin sisters: Loretta and Anna Eich; three brothers: Alvin, Ray and Herbert Eich; and a sister, Helen Eischeid.
