LUELLA GRUHN
Luella Katharina Marie Gruhn, daughter of Jurgen and Anna (Peters) Hinz, was born December 12, 1904, at home, in Carroll Count, Iowa. She attended country schools and worked at home following her schooling. She then worked in other peoples' homes and also for Dr. Carlile.

On January 16, 1929, Luella was united in marriage with Max Gruhn at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning. Two children were born to this union. Luella was a homemaker but over the years she worked at Ann Paulsen's Restaurant, The Club Cafe, Pahdes Clothing Store, Genevieve's, and The Golden Rule, from which she retired. In 1984 Luella moved to the Terrace Apartments. Her husband who had been a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home died later that year. Luella was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and the Evening Circle. She enjoyed flower gardening, baking and quilting. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her great joy and were of the utmost importance to her.

In 1995 Luella became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home, where she died on Monday, December 22, 1997, at the age of 93 years and 10 days.

Besides her husband and parents, Luella was preceded in death by a niece, Rosemary Hinz Heuton, who she raised as her own; and three brothers: Robert Hinz, as a child; Walter Hinz; and Edward Hinz.

Luella is survived by a daughter, Carol Ann Segebart, of Manilla; a son, Gary Gruhn and his wife, Reanne, of Atlantic; six grandchildren; Terry Segebart, and his wife, Connie; Becky and her husband, Josef Karsten; Ryan Gruhn; Randy Gruhn; Steve Heuton and his wife Michael Heuton; seven grandchildren: Nikki, Joshua, Amanda and Jeremiah Segebart; Casey Karsten; and Craig and Chad Heuton; three sisters: Edna and her husband Kermit Kaspersen, of Manning; Eldora Hofvander, of Chicago, Illinois; and Florence and her husband, Virgil Genzen, of Manning; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 24, 1997, at 2:00 P.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, Manning, Iowa. Pastor Daniel Vogel and Pastor Curt Dwyer officiated. Organist Carlys Stribe with songs "What A Friend We Have In Jesus", "Be Still My Soul", "Nearer My God To Thee". Interment was in the Manning Cemetery, Manning, Iowa. Casketbearers were Leland Kienast, Dwight Gruhn, Kent Vollstedt, Russ Mohr, Bob Genzen, Bary Kienast.

Visitation was held Tuesday, December 23, 1997, at 3:00 P.M. Manning. Ohde Funeral HOME was in charge of arrangements.
