Lyle Gene David, the son of Clarence Reuben John and Beata Helena Dorthea (Schade) David was born May 31, 1933, at his parents' home in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa, and died January 3, 2015, at the Shady Oaks Care Center in Lake City, Iowa at the age of 81 years, 7 months, and 2 days.

Lyle was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church near Gray, Iowa. He attended rural school in Lincoln Township (No. 9 school) and graduated from the Audubon High School with the class of 1951. Lyle was employed with Detlefsen Electric of Manning, Iowa for a short time. During this time he also helped operate the family farm.

On May 21, 1953, he was united in marriage to Colleen Cerka at St. John's Lutheran Church in Audubon. Two sons Joel and Matthew were born to this union. Lyle worked at A & G Farm Service as the station manager for several years then farmed near Audubon for five years. They moved to Manning for a short time and Lyle sold cars for the local Chevrolet dealer. They returned to Audubon and Lyle was the sales manager for Searls Chevrolet. Later he sold cars for Conklin Ford in Audubon and Larsen Ford in Exira until he retired. He then worked part time for several area auto dealers. They moved to Glidden, Iowa to be closer to their family. Later in November of 2014 Lyle moved to Shady Oak Care Center in Lake City, Iowa.

Lyle was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served on the financial committee. Later when they moved to Glidden he transferred his membership to Peace Lutheran Church. Lyle enjoyed fishing, singing, gardening, playing cards, helping other farmer farm, and watching stock car races. He was a member of the Audubon Fire Department for many years. Lyle was very giving and would do almost anything for you. But most of all Lyle loved being with his family. He was the best Father and Grandfather Ever!!!

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers-in-law Walter Lage and James Friedrichsen.

Survivors include his wife Colleen David of Glidden, Iowa; his sons Joel and wife Jamie David of Glidden, Iowa, Matthew and wife Kathy David of West Liberty, Iowa; his grandchildren Jeremy and wife Stephanie David of Glidden, Iowa, Jessica and husband Mark Hankins of Glidden, Iowa, Jaycie David of Ames, Iowa, Grant David of West Liberty, Iowa, Crager David of West Liberty, Iowa; his great-grandchildren Reece David and Delaney David both of Glidden, Iowa, and Harper Hankins of Glidden, Iowa; his sisters Ardith Lage of Manning, Iowa, Carlene and husband John Deist of Audubon, Iowa; sister-in-law Barb Friedrichsen of Audubon, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Gordon Buchholz and Pastor Alan Miller on Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at 10:30 A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. Interment will be in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Audubon, Iowa. The casket bearers will be Jeremy David, Nick Jensen, Nate Jensen, Lance Lage, Brian Lage, and John Deist. The family will meet with friends on Tuesday evening at 5:30 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Audubon, Iowa.
