LYLE WILHELM LOUIS JAHN

Funeral services for Lyle Wilhelm Louis Jahn were held Sunday, November 15, 1987, at 2:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa. Pastor Robert Riggert officiated the service with Helen Ohde and Steve Linn as vocalists and Paula Weiss as organist. Interment was in Manning City Cemetery with Paul Vollstedt, Allan Wiese, Larry Hansen, Myron Bogatzke, Melvin Jackson and John Ohde as casket-bearers. Honorary casketbearers were Emil Ruhde, Don Mohr, Marvin Gaer, Tom MacDonald-Williams, Robert Hoffmann, and Everett Christensen. Ohde Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Lyle, son of Hugo P. G. and Gladys (Stammer) Jahn, was born May 15, 1931, in Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. He lived on a farm with his parents and attended country schools, graduating from Manning High School in 1949. May 25, 1952, Lyle was united in marriage with Delores Elaine Clark at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning.

They made their home in Manning where Lyle worked for Ralph Grundmeier's Home Oil Company. After that he worked as a blood tester for Schmell Hatchery of Georgia and later as a carpenter for Ed Hinz Construction. In 1963 Lyle formed a partnership with Emil Ruhde called the Ruhde & Jahn Construction Business. After Ruhde's retirement several years ago the business became Jahn Construction Company.

Lyle was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He was very active in the community of Manning, serving on the Planning and Zoning Commission, the Manning Municipal Gas Board, the Manning Fire Department, and for 17 years, on the Manning City Council. Lyle was very interested in the local school system, supporting the Manning Band Boosters and the Manning Athletic Department. He enjoyed hunting, especially deer hunting, and fishing in his free time.

Lyle began having health problems two years ago but continued to work until about a month before his death Wednesday, November 11, 1987, at Manning General Hospital at the age of 56 years, 5 months and 27 days.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn, as an infant and by his father-in-law, Ralph Clark.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Delores, of Manning; by four sons: Kim and his wife, Mari, of Manning; Kent and his wife, Heidi, of Pleasant Hill, Illinois; Dana, of Manilla; and Eric, at home; by six grandchildren: Michelle, Christian, Gretchen, Tiffany, Lane, and Clark Jahn; by his parents, Hugo P.G. and Gladys Jahn, of Manning; by a brother, Darryl Jahn and his wife, Susan, of Des Moines; by a sister, Marlene and her husband, Ernie Ruhde, of Nevada; by his mother-in-law, Verna Clark, of Bayard; and by aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.


Lyle Jahn is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
