MADGE MAE ARMSTRONG

Graveside services for Madge Mae Armstrong were held Wednesday, November 5, 1986, at 10:30 a.m. at Nishnabotna Cemetery near Manilla. Pastor Sushil Joseph officiated the service with Ohde Funeral Home in Manning in charge of arrangements.

Madge Mae Butler was born March 18, 1894 at Turin, Iowa. She attended country school near her home. On January 13, 1914, she was united in marriage with Jess L. Armstrong. This union was blessed with seven children. Madge and her husband lived in Manilla where Jess was employed by the light company, and in 1938 they moved to Manning and again Jess worked with the local light plant. Madge continued to make her home in Manning after her husband died in 1965. She devoted much of her time to her flower and vegetable garden. For about the past 10 years she has been a resident of St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. She died there Monday morning, November 3, 1986, at the age of 92 years, 7 months, and 15 days.

Madge was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband; by four children: her son, Glen in 1856; her son, Jess, in 1966; and her daughter, LaVonne in 1977; as well as one infant son, Verl; and by one brother, Ora Butler.

Madge is survived by three children: James L. Armstrong and his wife, Dorothy, of Midway, Arkansas; Pearl George of Boone; and Ida and her husband, Verl Sims, of West Des Moines; by 13 grandchildren; by 10 great-grandchildren; and by a sister, Edith Chance, of Earlham, Iowa.
