Magdelena Karsten 1843-1918
GRANDMA CALLED

Mrs. Magdalena Karsten, nee Moeller, was born Aug. 6, 1843 in Eddelak, Brunsbuttle Koog, Holstein. Was united in marriage to William Karsten Nov. 26, 1856. This union was blessed with 10 children; nine of them are living near Manning, one son Peter, died here in his early manhood.

In April 1883 the Karsten family moved to America and settled in Carroll Co.

Mr. Karsten died May 11, 1914. Mrs. Karsten died April 4, 1918 in the age of 74 years, 7 months and 28 days. She leaves to mourn her sorrowing children: Maggie, wife of Wm. Opperman, Hannes Karsten and family, Mary, wife of Gus Vinke, Clause Karsten, Henry Karsten and family, Katie, wife of Herman Rohwedder, August Karsten and family, Emil Karsten, Emma, wife of Walter Laurinat. She also leaves 31 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at her home Sunday at 2:00 p.m., Rev. G. Krumm officiating.

Burial took place in Manning Cemetery beside the body of her beloved husband.

Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mrs. John Peterson and son Henry and wife of Holstein and Mr. Henry Pewe of McHenry, N. D.

The deceased was a devoted mother and wife, and her loss is a great loss to all her relatives and friends. She sleeps awaiting the time when she shall again meet her beloved ones.
