MALINDA K. ERPS

Malinda, daughter of Gus and Minna (Jahn) Meggers, was born September 7, 1909, in Iowa Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended the rural schools near her home for eight years, followed by a year of Lutheran School in Denison. She was confirmed in 1925 at Denison.

On January 4, 1928, Malinda was united in marriage with Edward Erps. They farmed near Botna for four years, then north of Manning for a year, then back south of Botna for 11 years. They moved to Manning in 1944. Malinda worked at the hot lunch program in the Manning Community School for six years and she and her husband managed the Manning-Manilla Country Club for seven years.

Following a short illness, Malinda died at the Manning General Hospital on Friday evening, December 24, 1993, at the age of 84 years, three months, and 17 days.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1979; her parents; a brother, John Meggers; a sister, Ann in infancy; two grandchildren, Patricia Ann and Dennis Edward.

Survivors include her son, George Erps and his wife, Leona of Denison; four grandchildren, Linda Custer of Washington, LeRoy Erps of Washington, Lyle Erps of Colorado, and Georga Erps of Colorado; a brother, Lester Meggers and his wife, Eunice of Manila; sisters-in-law, Matie Erps of South Dakota, Adella Wold of South Dakota, Malinda Lerssen of Manning and Edna Meggers of Manilla; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Malinda was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Manning since 1954. She was active in the Presbyterian Women and the Esther Circle. She enjoyed playing bridge and belonged to Manning bridge clubs.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 27, 1993, at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning with Reverend Marshall Brown of the First Presbyterian Church in Manning officiating. Music was "Lord, I'm Coming Home" and "Rock of Ages" with Helen Ohde as vocalist and Connie Siepker as organist.

Interment was in Manning City Cemetery in Manning.

Pallbearers were Clarence Bowers, Don Lerssen, Harvey Dales, Gene Meggers, LeRoy Jansen, and Wesley Nulle. Ohde Funeral Home, Manning, was in charge of arrangements.
