MALINDA NAEMI GRAGE

Funeral services were held for Malinda Naemi Grage Thursday, May 25, 1989, 11:30 a.m. at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Pastor Sushil Joseph of the United Methodist Church officiated the service with Connie Siepker as organist and Joann Karsten as vocalist. Interment was in Manning City Cemetery with her grandsons Steven Avey, Kevin Avey, Craig Rothfolk, Mike Trecker, Eric Desing, and Craig Olsen, serving as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers were her grandsons, David Grage, Jim Grage, Mark Frisinger, Keith Frisinger, and Tom Frisinger.

Malinda, daughter of Johann Jacob and Katharine (Carlsen) Petersen, was born March 29, 1905, in Lincoln Township, Audubon County, Iowa. When Malinda was three years old her mother died; she was raised by her older sister, Marie. The family made their home in Manning where Malinda attended school.

On September 24, 1924, Malinda was united in marriage with Walter Grage. Three children, Allan, Marilyn, and Mary Jane, were born to this union. They farmed near Manilla until 1935 when they moved to Manning. Walter died in 1962 and Malinda continued to make her home in Manning, moving to the Terrace Apartments in 1975. Due to failing health Malinda moved to the Friendship Home in Audubon in 1982.

Malinda suffered a fall at the nursing home and was taken to Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines for surgery. She died there on Sunday, May 21, 1989, at the age of 84 years, 1 month, and 22 days.

Besides her husband, Malinda was preceded in death by her parents; by a brother, Carl Petersen; by two sisters, Lena Grimm and Lillie Nissen; by a son-in-law, Gerald Avey; and by a step-grandson, Keith Frisinger.

Malinda is survived by her children: Allan and his wife, Wanda, of Bothell, Washington; Marilyn Avey, of Lincoln, Nebraska; and Mary Jane and her husband, Norman Rothfolk, of Manning; by ten grandchildren; by nine great-grandchildren; by three step-grandchildren; by 8 step-great-grandchildren; by two sisters, Marie Misselhorn, of Manning and Alma Petersen, of Hardwick, Minnesota; by a sister-in-law, Emma Grage, of Manilla; by a brother-in-law, Herman Neuhofel, of Manilla; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Malinda was a member of the Manning United Methodist Church and of the WSC. She enjoyed gardening, and her grandchildren were of the utmost importance to her.
