Maria Hagedorn

Several weeks ago, Mrs. John Henry Hagedorn, nee Maria Mohr, was taken to Omaha to a hospital to see if she could not get relief from stomach and gall stone trouble. An operation was performed, but failed to overcome both the illness and weakness and she passed away Oct. 25, 1914, aged 52 years and 12 days.

She was born Oct. 13, 1862, near Marne, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, and came to America in 1881. Two years later she was united in marriage to John Henry Hagedorn, who still survives here. Mr. and Mrs. Hagedorn began at once to reap a fortune from hard work on a farm near Manning, living most of the life south of town. Besides being blessed with prosperity, a large family of sons and daughters came to their home. The children are Dora, married to Christian Petersen of Lincoln Township, Audubon Co.; Gustav, of Audubon county; Carl, of Audubon county; William, a farmer near Manning, lowa; Otto of Audubon county; Rosa, (Mrs. Herman Kusel, of Hartwig, Minn.); Henry, Louis and Herman, who live in, Audubon County; John, who makes his home with his brother William and Maria, who is still at home. Besides this large family of living sons and daughters, three children died in infancy. There are five grandchildren.

The surviving brothers and sisters are Mrs. Peter Rehder, of Burwell, Nebr.; Johann Mohr, of Burwell, Nebr.; Peter Henry Mohr, of Burwell, Nebr.; and Mrs. Josuah Jewall, of Burwell, Nebraska. The aged father, Johann Jacob Mohr, is still living with his children at Burwell, Nebraska. The mother died in 1910.

Mrs. Hagedorn, the deceased, took sick in June. Up to that time she was a very healthy and hardworking woman. She took great delight in her family of sons and daughters. Just at the time when she hoped to settle down to a long and quiet life in Manning and enjoy the fruits of her past labors she was stricken down. She had lived to see prosperity come to her and her husband, and then was called from this world to the home beyond. The funeral was held at the home, and at the Methodist church building, Rev. Gust. Tillmanns, pastor of the German Friedens Church, and Rev. Lyles, pastor of the Methodist church officiating.

The funeral was a large one, showing a high, respect of neighbors and friends for the one called away. The singing at the services was of the best, and a feature of the services.

Following, the services kind hands carried the body to the Manning cemetery where it was land to rest until the Judgment Day when all shall come forth again.
The many friends sympathize deeply with the saddened father and family in their late sorrow.
