Mrs. J.L. Hansen
Is Called To Her Reward
Passed away Wednesday July 10th at Carroll Hospital after several weeks of
illness.
Services held Sunday
Maria Biehl Hansen, beloved wife of John L. Hansen of Manning, died at the Carroll
Hospital last Wednesday afternoon about 3:00 o'clock after a five weeks suffering with a
weak hear. She suffered, yet suffering sickness nor death could erase the smile that
always brightened up her mild countenance and seemed to radiate sunshine. Her life has
been a criterion of cheerful sacrifice for her children and family. She was cheerful to the
end and was a good mother and cheerful wife. Her passing has left her many relatives
and friends with hearts filled with sorrow.
Maria Biehl, was born October 19, 1864, at Gotzberg, Holstein, Germany. Came to America at the age of 17 and lived near Arcadia. She was united in marriage to John Hansen in 1887 and resided on their farm near Arcadia: later moved to a farm in Audubon county where they lived until locating in Manning where they have continued to reside. Mrs. Hansen was a patient most of this time in St. Anthony's hospital in Carroll. She passed away July 10, 1929, aged 64 years, 8 months and 21 days.
She leaves to mourn her departure and their loss, her husband an four living children,
three daughters and one son; Mrs. Ed Kramland of Byron California; Mrs. R.J. Bradford of
Tracy, California; Mrs. R.M. Hiatt and Peter F. Hansen of Manning. Three other children
departed this life in infancy. She also leaves three grandchildren, three sisters and a
brother.
The latter are Mrs. Chris Hollander, Mrs. Claus Dammann and Henry Biehl of Manning
and Mrs. William Bock of Haywood, California.
Mrs. Hansen was confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Germany in her early life, although not actively identified with any church in Manning.
The funeral services were held Friday, July 12th, at 2 p.m. consisting of Scripture reading and prayer at the home and public services at the Methodist church. A quartette composed of Mrs. J.A. Lewis, Miss Juanita Johnson, Professor Esbach and Clifford Johnson with Mrs. Bonita Wood at the piano furnished the music. Rev. R.E. Harvey preached the funeral discourse from Proverbs 31.31.
The presence of a very large congregation of friends and acquaintances expressed the general sympathy of the community with Mr. Hansen, the children and relatives in this loss of one so highly esteemed by them and all who know her.
