Services Held For Mrs. Maria Joens, 85

Funeral services for Mrs. Maria Joens were held Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock at the Ohde Funeral Home with Rev. Alexander Wimberly, Pastor of the Presbyterian Church in charge. Interment was in the Iowa Township cemetery.

The deceased passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. John J. Struve, Sunday, April 27, 1947, at the age of 85 years, 8 months and a day.

Maria Margaretha Siggelke was born August 26, 1856 in Hademarschen, Hanerau, Schleswig-Holstein Germany. She came to America in 1883 and on October 16th of the same year she was united in marriage to Henry E. Joens at Denison, Iowa.

To this union six children were born. Freddie passed away in infancy and Alma died in 1920. The others are Anna, Mrs. John J. Struve of Manning; Elsie, Mrs. Peter Struve, Manning; Hertha, Mrs. John Gosch of Jackson, Minn., Henry of Jackson, Minnesota, and one adopted daughter, Loletta, Mrs. R. W. Cox of Denver, Colorado, and four grandchildren

After their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Joens lived in Crawford and Carroll counties until 1919 when they moved to Jackson, Minn., where they lived until the death of Mr. Joens in 1935. Since that time she has made her home with her daughters. At the time of her death she was with Mrs. John J. Struve.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
The deceased was baptized in the Lutheran faith in Germany.

Acting as pallbearers were Geo. Graves W. E. Sander, Fred Hassler, Lou Bohnsach, Jacob Carsten and William Dammann.
