Marian Sophia, daughter of Henry and Catherine “Tina” (Passick) Arp, was born on November 2, 1922, in Manning, Iowa. Marian grew up in Manning and attended Manning schools.

On October 3, 1940, Marian was united in marriage to Joseph John Knueven. Marian and Joe made their home on a farm near Manning for ten years and then moved into town. To this union five children were born. Marian spent these years nurturing her family and homemaking while also working at Priebe & Sons Hatchery and L.R. Nelson Corporation. She was an Avon Representative for many years. In her spare time she enjoyed baking and sharing her goods with family and friends. She also enjoyed her volunteer work at the Manning Plaza and watching polka dancing on TV. Her family recalls her fondness for chocolate candy and strawberry pie. Above all Marian took great pride and enjoyment in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marian was a member of the Sacred Heart Parish in Manning. She was active in the American Legion Auxiliary and was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

After the death of her husband in 1994, Marian was able to remain in her home with the help of her daughter, Deb. During this time she also spent many enjoyable hours at Deb’s Corner Café and whenever possible going for rides. Due to declining health she moved to the Manning Plaza in 2008, where she died on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at the age of 87 years, 5 months and 26 days.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Joseph; son Robert in infancy; great-granddaughter Miranda Knueven; and two brothers: Lyle O. Arp and wife Dorothy and Norman Arp and wife Jean; brothers and sisters-in-law Frank Knueven; Anne and husband Harold Walsh; Louis Knueven; Ed Foley and wife Marcella.

Marian is survived by four children: Karen and husband Don Price of Vail; Jan and husband Bill Lahndorf of Manilla; Gary Knueven and wife Linda of Manning and Deb Knueven of Manning; eight grandchildren: Rob Saunders and Angela; Jon and Jill Saunders; Jim and Michelle Amsden; Kevin Lahndorf and Tina; Cory and Fawn Lahndorf; Renee Wilson; Jen and Tracy Rowedder and Jason and Trela Knueven; 19 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Claudia Knueven of Coon Rapids; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
