After completing her education, Marie worked as a hired girl in various homes in the area.

Marie and Carl were members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla where Marie was a member of the Priscilla Guild.

Her husband died on September 18, 1995, and Marie moved from the farm into Manilla. When she was no longer able to remain in her home she became a resident of Manning Plaza Nursing Home in April 2011. She died there on Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at the age of 100 years, 1 month and 19 days.
