Marie Catherine, daughter of Barney and Mary Catherine (Wegman) Sextro was born May 8, 1900, near Templeton, Iowa. She spent her younger years in the Templeton community and attended Sacred Heart School there.

On May 2, 1927, Msgr. F.H. Huesmann at Sacred Heart Church in Templeton united Marie in marriage with Henry A. Drees. They farmed west and north of Templeton until Henry’s death in 1954. Marie remained on the farm for a number of years and then moved to Manning.

Marie was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and Altar Society in Manning and a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas in Templeton for over 50 years.

In 1999, Marie moved to Denison to live with her granddaughter Mary Underwood. She suffered a heart attack and entered Crawford County Memorial Hospital on Friday, December 27, 2002. She died there early Sunday, December 29, 2002, at the age of 102 years, 7 months and 21 days.

Preceding her in death are her parents; husband; daughter Mary Lou Drees in 1954; three brothers John, Ben and Frank (Shorty) Sextro; and sister Pauline Kerkhoff.

Marie is survived by four children: Herb Drees and wife Carol of State Center; James Drees and wife Pat of Manning; Dean Drees and wife Ruth of Manning; and Joan and husband Don Bauer of Manilla; 21 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law Lorrine Sextro of Lake View and Viola Drees of Exira; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
