Marie Anna Wiebke, daughter of Chris and Annie (Schroeder Kruse) Ehrichs, was born June 16, 1913, at Hayes Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She attended country school near her home. When Marie was 15 years old her mother died and she subsequently kept house for her father and did chores, occasionally babysitting during harvest.

On August 21, 1935, Marie was united in marriage with Lewis P. Hagedorn at the Methodist Church in Manning. Four children were born to this union. Marie and Lewis farmed on rented land around Aspinwall and Manning until they moved into Manning in 1968. Marie then babysat, cleaned houses, and worked at Manning General Hospital. Lewis died October 5, 1998.

Marie was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was active in Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Happy Hour Club.

Due to failing health, Marie entered the Manning Plaza Nursing Home on November 25, 1998. On Thursday, October 28, 1999, Marie died at Manning Regional Healthcare Center, reaching the age of 86 years, 4 months and 15 days.

Besides her parents and husband, Marie is preceded in death by four brothers-in-law: Lorn and Alvin Hagedorn, Ernest Grimm, and Elmer Otto; three half-brothers: Harry Elrichs, Arthur Kruse, and Ed Kruse; and a granddaughter Laura Hagedorn, in infancy.

Marie is survived by four children: Robert Hagedorn and his wife Carol of Manning; Roger Hagedorn and his wife Deanna of Manning; Mary Ann and her husband Chris Brandt of Aspinwall; Raymond Hagedorn and his wife Norma of Manning; 10 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law: Elberta Grimm; Dalores and her husband Louie Otto; and Myrtle Otto, all of Manning; three half-sisters-in-law: Amanda Kruse of Manning; Henrietta Kruse of Dunlap; Ethel Elrichs of Kansas; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
