Marilyn Jensen

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, May 17 at 11:00 a.m., at the Willow Creek Baptist Church, 720 Army Post Road, West Des Moines, Iowa.

Marilyn Jensen, age 63, of Valparaiso, Indiana, formerly of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at the VNA Horton Hospice Center in Valparaiso.

Marilyn was born April 26, 1945, in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, the daughter of Rev. Ervin and Mahala (Clark) Butler. Marilyn had served as Pastor's Wife for 16 years (Calvary Baptist Church in Manning in the 1980s and early 1990s), had been a substitute teacher in several Nebraska and Iowa School Districts and worked as the Information Specialist and Volunteer Coordinator for the Iowa Department for the Blind Library. She received her Bachelors Degree in Education and Library Science from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Marilyn was a member of Willow Creek Baptist Church in West Des Moines, and currently attended Faith Evangelical Bible Church in Valparaiso. She was also a member of Friends of the Library for the Blind and was an avid reader.

On August 12, 1967, at Park Lane Baptist Church in Omaha, Nebraska, she married Rev. Henry "Hank" Jensen who survives, along with their two sons; Jeff (Cheryl) Jensen of Dunlap, Illinois (Jeff is a 1988 graduate of Manning High School), Chad (Kristin) Jensen of Columbus, Ohio, 2 grandchildren; Andrea and Elisa Jensen, and 6 brothers and sisters; Margaret (Bob) Paswaters of Denver, Colorado, Carol (Dave) Thompson of Ephraim, Utah, Ron (Pat) Butler of Scottsdale, Arizona, Judy (Karl) Schowengerdt of West Des Moines, Iowa, Chap. (Col.) Dan (Charlene) Butler of Litchfield Park, Arizona, and Becky (Charlie) Brueggeman of Glendale, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
