Funeral service will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Monday, June 20, 2016, at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning with Pastor Jonathan Conner officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service on Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Manning Cemetery. Marlin Frederick Kahl, son of Walter and Louise (Berg) Kahl, was born May 22, 1935, on a farm southwest of Rock Rapids, Iowa. He was baptized July 14, 1935, and confirmed April 10, 1949. Marlin grew up near Rock Rapids and attended Central Lyon High School through the 11th grade. He then worked for his father. Marlin farmed for family and neighbors and later Verle Benson. He also worked for Muggler's Farm Industrial installing silos and loaders for cattle feeding operations.

On September 25, 1964, Marlin was united in marriage with Carol Jean Ringling in Ocheyedan. Four boys were born to this union. The family first made their home in Rock Rapids where Marlin and Carol owned and operated a Coast to Coast Store. In March of 1967, they moved to Manning and Marlin purchased the local Coast to Coast store and then worked with M&I DeHy, Herman Sonksen Carpentry, Chuck Rauch with Manning Heat and Sheet Metal and Burcliff. He retired from the Aspinwall Coop in 1997. Marlin served on the Manning Volunteer Fire Department for 32 years and on the Manning Ambulance Crew for several years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Marlin enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and volunteering at the Hausbarn. Marlin passed away early on Friday morning, June 17, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

Marlin is survived by his wife Carol of Manning; four sons: Kevin Kahl (Chris) of Davenport, Iowa, Gerald Kahl (Charlotte) Cave Creek, Arizona, Brian Kahl (Sheryl) of Everly, Iowa; and Wendel Kahl (Tracy) of Onawa, Iowa; eight grandchildren ; two great grandchildren; two brothers: Marvin Kahl (Laura) of Rapids City, South Dakota, and Ken Kahl (Rollys) of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Marlin was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters: Verna Mae Struven, Dorothy Annn Johnson, a brother Melvin Kahl, an infant sister Mary Louise, and an infant brother Glen.
