MARTHA JANE DOYEL

Funeral services for Martha Jane Doyel were held Tuesday, July 5, 1988, at 10:30 a.m. at Ohde Funeral Home in Manning. Reverend Randy Ross of the First Presbyterian Church, Manning, officiated the service, with Ruth Ann Barry, organist, and Milton Barry, vocalist. Interment was in Manning City Cemetery with Leroy Doyel, John "Doyel, J.B. Meggers, Richard Crouch, Doug Mohr, and Tom Doyel serving as casketbearers. Honorary casketbearers were Jim Doyel, Gary Doyel, Kenneth Doyel, Terry Doyel, Steve Mohr, Larry Mohr, and Scott Mohr.

Martha Jane, daughter of John Franklin and Tabatha Luiza (Williams) Parker, was born in Maries County, Missouri on March 2, 1898, where she grew to adulthood. She was baptized in the Baptist faith. She died at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home, Manning, Iowa, on Friday morning, July 1, 1988, at the age of 90 years, 3 months, and 29 days.

On January 20, 1915, Martha was united in marriage with George Thomas Doyel in her parents' home in Missouri. Six children, Elmer, Mildred, Leslie, Thelma, Hazel, and George were born to this union.

In 1922, Martha and Thomas moved to Iowa. They lived on a farm near Botna most of their married life. Thomas died on December 15, 1973; Martha moved to Manning in April of 1974. For the last three years she had been a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.

Martha was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the VFW Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents and husband, Martha was preceded in death by two brothers, Harrison and Leslie Parker; by three sisters, Mary, Louiza Mae, and Eva; by two grandsons, Norman Crouch and Jerry Meggers; and by three great-grandchildren: Richard Crouch, Jr., Robin Chase, and Sami Kay Chase.

Martha is survived by three sons: Elmer and his wife, Leona, of Newell; Leslie and his wife, Mildred, of Manning; and George and his wife, Barbara, of rural Manilla; by three daughters, Mildred and her husband, Virgil Crouch, of Irwin; Thelma and her husband, Wade Mohr, of Manning; and Hazel Meggers, of Council Bluffs; by 22 grandchildren; by 49 great-grandchildren; by 14 great-great-grandchildren; by one brother, Charlie Parker and one half brother, Ray Parker, both of Dixon, Missouri; by three half-sisters, Olive Snodgrass, of Vienna, Missouri; Louise Freeze, of Rocheport, Missouri; and Pershing Martin, of Jefferson City, Missouri; and by nieces, nephews, and many friends.
