MARVIN M. GAER

Marvin Manley Gaer, the son of Rebecca Elizabeth and Umri Gaer, was born on a farm in Polk Township in Shelby County, Iowa on September 19, 1877.

He later moved to Whittier, California, where he was united in marriage to Dolly Malinda Bolman on December 12, 1917, and to this union five children were born.

Mr. and Mrs. Gaer lived in California for a few years before returning to Iowa, where they settled on a farm near Redline. This was their home until 1936 when they moved into Kirkman. After the death of his wife in April of 1966, Mr. Gaer continued to make his home in Kirkman until the fall of that year. He then became a resident of the Manning Plaza at Manning, Iowa. He moved to the Thomas Rest Haven at Coon Rapids, Iowa in November of 1969. It was there he passed away on June 16, 1970, having attained the age of 92 years, 8 months, and 27 days. In addition to his wife, Dolly, he was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers: Perry, Edward and Cleive Gaer; and by three sisters: Etta Gaer, Clara Gaer, and Mrs. Anna Jorgensen.

Mr. Gaer is survived by his five children: Margaret, Mrs. Frank West of Irwin; Evelyn, Mrs. Leland McConnell of Manilla; Marvin D. of Manning; Helen, Mrs. Tom Holloway of Irwin; and Donna Mae, Mrs. Leonard Kloewer of Council Bluffs, Iowa; by eighteen grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; one brother, Steven Gaer of Kirkman; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 18, 1970, at 2:00 p.m. at the Pauley Home for Funerals in Harlan with Rev. George W. McMullen, pastor of the Irwin Methodist Church, officiating.

Interment was in the Rose Hill Cemetery at Kirkman with Paul Larson, Eugene Gaer, Larry Axland, Ora Holloway, Gary McConnell, and Robert Rasmussen serving as casket bearers.
