Marvin Albert, son of Albert and Agnes (Irlmeier) Halbur, was born December 4, 1947, near Halbur, Iowa. He grew up with his family near Halbur. Marvin attended St. Augustine grade school and graduated from Kuemper High School in 1966. He farmed with his father for four years before he was united in marriage with Patricia Muhlbauer on October 10, 1970. Several months later they settled on a farm northwest of Manning. Four children were born to this union. Their children grew up on the farm and were graduates of Manning High School.

Marvin and Patsy worked together in their livestock and grain business. Marvin could always be found working with his animals or fixing something around the farm. He thoroughly enjoyed working with his children and grandchildren on their 4-H livestock projects. Marvin was a self-taught carpenter, building many barns, machine sheds, and homes throughout his life. He was an optimistic problem-solver, providing a unique skill in both his farming business and carpentry work. Marvin's family was the most important aspect of his life. He always enjoyed vacationing with his family and could often be found boating with them, along with friends, on Sunday afternoons. Marvin's family has been members of Sacred Heart Parish in Manning where they were all actively involved.

Marvin and Patsy built a new home in Manning and moved there in June 2012. Even though Marvin never retired, he continued to enjoy traveling after moving to town. In August of 2015, Marvin was diagnosed with cancer. He was able to remain in his home with the care of his wife, daughter-in-law Amy, and other loyal family members. He died at home on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, at the age of 69 years, and 17 days.

Preceding him in death are his parents; brothers Jerome Halbur, in infancy and Jerome Halbur in 1993; brother-in-law Vince Leiting; parents-in-law Tony and Laura Muhlbauer; brother-in-law Tony Muhlbauer, Jr. and aunt and uncle Bertha and Lawrence Johnson.

Marvin is survived by his wife Patsy of Manning; four children Kent (Kathy) Halbur of Manning, Bret (Amy) Halbur of Manning, Rick (Anne) Halbur of New Ulm, Minnesota, and Joanne (Patrick) Schoessler of Manning; 10 grandchildren; siblings Alvina Leiting of Westside, Jim (Betty) Halbur of Halbur, Leroy (Donna) Halbur of Manning, and Ivan (Linda) Halbur of Halbur; sister-in-law Virgina (Leroy) Schultes of Templeton; Patsy's family; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.
