Mary Bauer

Rite of the Christian Burial for Mary Bauer, 78, of Manning, Manning Plaza Nursing Home, was celebrated at 1 p.m. Monday, January 9, 1984, at Sacred Heart Church in Manning with the Rev. Msgr. Dean Walker as celebrant.

Dorothy Shultz was lector; grandchildren Ryan Rattenborg and Maria Jose Bauer were gift-bearers and Jeff Sporrer, David Mohr, and Allen Dammann were mass-servers. Burial was in the parish cemetery in Manning. Active casket-bearers were grandsons: Kerri, Kevin, Tim, and Mike Bauer; Scott and Randy Haberl. Honorary bearers were granddaughters: Vickie Rattenborg, Janet, Jill, Sheryl, and Jayne Bauer, and Deborah Flink.

Burial was in the Manning Parish Cemetery.

Rosaries were recited at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning at 3 p.m. Sunday by the Catholic Daughters of America and a prayer service was conducted at 7:30 p.m. by the parish.

Mrs. Bauer is survived by sons Ervin, Manning; Edmund, Sac City; Alvin, Sioux City, and John J., Des Moines; a daughter, Mrs. Don (Mary Ann) Haberl, Maple River; 17 grandsons, six granddaughters, nine great-grandchildren; five sisters and four brothers: Mrs. Ed (Regina) Schlichte, Mrs. Albert (Hildegarde) Rupiper, Mrs. Louis (Katherine) Dopheide, Mrs. LaVern (Margaret) Murray; Joe, Vincent and Ted Langel, all of Templeton; Justina Langel and Simon Langel, both of Carroll.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John, in 1974, a son, Leroy, a grandson Matthew Haberl and the following brothers and sisters: Harry, Adolph, Edward; Mrs. Conrad (Clara) Bauer, Anna Langel and Beatrice Langel.

Mrs. Bauer was born November 8, 1905, at Templeton, a daughter of Clem and Anna (Fangman) Langel. She was married to John A. Bauer on January 7, 1930. They farmed south of Willey until 1938 when they moved to a farm southwest of Halbur where they lived for 30 years. They retired in 1968 and moved into Manning. She had been a resident of the nursing home for the past two years.
