Obituary.
RIPE WHEAT.
We bent today o'er a coffin form,
And our tears fell softly down
We looked our last on the aged face,
With its look of peace, its patient grace,
And hair like a silver crown.
We touched our own to the clay
cold hand from life's labor at rest;
And among the blossoms white and sweet,
We noted a bunch of golden wheat,
clasped close to the silent breast,
The ripe wheat told of toil and care,
The patient waiting, the trusting prayer,
The garnered good of the years.

Mrs. Mary C. Bond, nee Collins, mother of B.C. Brookfield, well known to all, died at the home of her son in Omaha, June 2, 1908, old age being the direct cause of her death. She was born in Milford, Delaware, September 24, 1818. She was married when 18 years of age to Noah Brookfield. Five children came to bless this union, of which all but two preceded her to the better world. The two surviving children are Benjamin and Mrs. Florence Forward, of Chicago, who were present at their mother's funeral.

Mother Bond, as we all knew her, was a very dear old lady and many learned to love her while she made her home in our city at the Park Hotel with her son's family.

She was a devout member of the Methodist Church but for a great many years being unable to attend its services, but often spoke about her church and the people. She was a very bright old lady and loved to talk of the things as she remembered them in years gone by. Could all live the just and upright life Mother Bond did and die in His trusting faith, Death could no longer be called the King of Terrors. She was fully conscious she was nearing the end and appeared to be fully impressed with the idea that at the end of time eternity begins, and was ready and anxious to go.

The remains were brought to Manning and are now at rest in our little cemetery south of town, beside her son, Burton. We extend to, the family our sincere sympathy.
