Minnie Mary, daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Vogt) Fredericks, was born January 29, 1920, in Hanover Township, Crawford County, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Hanover Lutheran Church, near Charter Oak. Mary attended rural school and then remained at home to help around the house after the death of her mother.

Mary was united in marriage with George Bruhn on July 30, 1960. She helped raise George's five children as his wife had died while the children were quite young. The combined family lived in Audubon County until 1975 when they moved to Irwin. Mary was a homemaker all her life. After the death of her husband on November 2, 1978, Mary moved to Gray and in the early 1990s moved to Manning. Mary was a faithful member of the Lutheran Church wherever she lived. In her spare time she enjoyed crocheting and tatting. Above all she enjoyed her large family.
