Mary Ellen Dixon was born October 2, 1926, at rural Manning, Iowa, the daughter of Frank and Lena Wulf. Mary passed away Friday, November 24, 2017, at St. Anthony's Regional Hospital in Carroll, Iowa at the age of ninety-one.

Mary received her education in the schools near her home and graduated from Westside High School with the Class of 1945. Mary and Melvin were united in marriage on September 19, 1945, at the United Church of Christ in Westside. Together they made their home on the farm north of Westside. Mary devoted her time taking care of her family as well as supporting the farming operation. She was also employed as a cook at the East End Café and Denny's Restaurant. Mary and Melvin moved to a home in Westside in 1979. Melvin passed away in 1981.

Traveling and dancing with her husband at the Five Mile House and the Arcadia Legion Hall were pleasurable activities for her. She also enjoyed gardening, cooking and baking, sewing, and playing cards, especially Bridge and Euchre. Reading, even as a child, was a favorite pastime. Mysteries were her preference. Mary enjoyed music and some of her favorites included Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Lawrence Welk, Big Band, Nat King Cole, Perry Como, and Andy Williams. Mary loved watching PBS, Lawrence Welk, Blue Bloods, David Letterman, and Stephen Colbert.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Lena; her husband, Melvin; and two brothers, Warren and Winston. Survivors include: four daughters, Marleen; Janis; Vicki and her husband, Rick; and Terri; four grandchildren Chad, Troy, James, and Jonathan; seven great-grandchildren Dylan, Gage, Caleb, Skye, Kyler, Peyton, and Myles; two brothers, Frank and his wife, Rafaela; and Charles and his wife Shelly.
