Mrs. Mary Lucille Doolittle, 83, of Des Moines, died Tuesday morning, January 14, 1975, at the Manning Plaza Nursing Home.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Manning Cemetery, with the Rev. Joel Wright, minister of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. Friends may call at the Ohde Funeral Home in Manning after 2 p.m. Thursday.

Mrs. Doolittle was born at Aspinwall, March 13, 1891, a daughter of Harry and Elvira (Swearengen) Hayes. Mary attended Manning High School and was a former member of the class of 1908. After high school she attended business school in Des Moines. She did secretarial work here and then was a secretary at Iowa Des Moines National Bank, Des Moines, for ten years. She married Clyde Doolittle in 1936 and they lived in Des Moines, where he died in November, 1973. A month after his death she came to the Manning Plaza.

Surviving are two children, Mrs. Ruth Thompson of Fredricksburg, Virginia; And Paul Bridwell of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; two step-children, Clyde Doolittle, Jr. of San Rafael, California, and Mrs. Janet Nye of Casper, Wyoming; nine grandchildren, and three sisters, Mrs. Erma Wiese of Aspinwall, Mrs. Enid Barsby of Manning, and Mrs. Delpha White of Green Valley, Arizona.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Doolittle was preceded in death by two brothers, Earl and Lyle, and a sister, Mrs. Blanche Grelck.

Her first marriage was to Dr. Wesley Bridwell in 1913.


Mary Doolittle is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
