Funeral services were held for Maria Handlos on Saturday, May 6, 1978, at 10 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church in Manning with Msgr. Dean Walker officiating. Interment was in Sacred Heart Cemetery with Larry Handlos, Tom Handlos, Gerald Handlos, Art Juergens, John Landa, and Valerius Meyer as casketbearers. Ohde Funeral home in Manning was in charge of arrangements.

Maria Handlos was born September 6, 1895, at Zachenberg, Niederbayern, Germany. At the age of fourteen she came to the United States to the Templeton community. She was united in marriage with Albert Handlos on April 8, 1913, at Templeton. They farmed in the Dedham, Templeton, and Manning areas until moving to Manning in 1945. Her husband died March 14, 1967. Maria continued to make her home in Manning and due to failing health entered the Manning Plaza about a year ago. She passed away at the Plaza Wednesday night, May 3, 1978, at the age of 82 years, 7 months, and 27 days.

She was a member of the Sacred Heart Church in Manning and an honorary member of the Altar and Rosary Societies.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and several sisters and brothers.

She is survived by four sons, Albert & Frank of Manning, and Henry and Ed of Rural Route, Audubon; by nine grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and one brother, Alois Reitmeier in Germany.
