Mary Lenhart
August 28, 1884
Manning Monitor

Died, on Monday morning, August 25.
Mrs. Mary Lenhart, of Manning, Iowa.

Mrs. Lenhart was born in Pennsylvania 54 years ago, and when young, moved with her parents to Illinois. She was married to Mr. Lenhart in 1857. They moved to Carroll County a few years ago where they have since resided. Last September the cancer, which ultimately destroyed her life, made its first appearance in her lower jaw. Every effort that was possible was made to arrest the disease but to no purpose. With its insatiable greed it gradually stole upon her and would be satisfied only with her life. After nearly a year of intense suffering, which she bore with grand fortitude and without a murmur, she quietly died, believing she would live again where such sufferings were not known. At her request the McPherson Post of the G.A.R. took charge of her burial, her husband being a member of that order. Rev. Harvey of the M.E. Church preached a very appropriate sermon. Her remains were laid, to rest in the new cemetery near Manning and were followed there by a long line of friends and neighbors who will cherish tenderly the memory of Mrs. Lenhart.

Note Manning Cemetery tombstone records: Mary Lenhart died August 25, 1884, 53 years, 5 months, 18 days; wife of Uriah Lenhart.
