Matthias Joens 78, died at 2:15 p.m. Sunday at Magic Valley Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.

Mr. Joens was born July 21, 1880, at Manning, Iowa. He married Fannie Miller April 2, 1918, at Deaver, Wyoming, and came from there in 1923 to the Buhl area where he had farmed and made his home since.

Surviving besides his widow are three daughters, Mrs. Eva Martins and Mrs. Lela Bess, both of Buhl, and Leona Hurley, Grants, New Mexico; two sons, John Joens, Portland, and Matthias Joens, Jr., Buhl; three brothers and one sister, all Iowa, and six grandchildren. One child preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Albertson Memorial Chapel. Final rites will be conducted in the Buhl City Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home Tuesday until 5 p.m. and Wednesday until time of services.
