Maud Coleman Obituary.
January 28, 1909 Manning Monitor

Maud L. Coleman, was born in Audubon County, Iowa, in 1887, and died in Sioux City, Iowa, January 22, 1909, aged 21 years, 2 months and 8 days.

Her parents, brother and three sisters and a multitude of friends mourn her untimely removal from life. She was converted at an early age and united with the U.B. Church at Botna, and was a true and faithful Christian.

She was greatly loved by all her friends and schoolmates, a diligent pupil in school and a beloved daughter in the home and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

"None knew her but to love her,
None named her but to praise."

The circumstances attending her death were peculiarly sad. She was on her way to Manning to visit relatives and friends, and while on the train approaching Sioux City was taken grievously ill. A physician, who chanced to be on board, gave her what attention he could and on reaching the station put her in charge of a city physician whom he met there.

She was removed to the hospital, where it became evident she was suffering from appendicitis but before an operation could be performed she passed away. She had not been able to give her name or address so severe were her sufferings, but after her death the nurse found her parents' address in her suitcase. They were summoned at once by wire, but living a long way from the telegraph office did not receive the message until late at night. The bad roads so delayed them in reaching the railroad station that they did not reach Sioux City until two days after their daughter's death.

The heartfelt sympathy of all who know them goes out to them in this sore trial.

The funeral services were held Tuesday, January 26th, at 2 p.m., in the M.E. Church, being conducted by Rev. Harvey, assisted by the choir. The sermon was preached from Job 16:22, after which the remains were interred in the Manning Cemetery.
