INHABITANTS OF THE SEA
Beyond the cliff is the bright blue sea,
It gives its welcome to you and me;
Some days it’s noisy and sometimes still
What e’er it speaks is all God’s will.
The waves express their feelings too,
Just like we humans sometimes do.
Below the surface one sees a new home,
Inhabitants with laws and languages of their own.
The floors are beautiful all lined with stone,
And with plenty of space for all to roam.
Their yards are landscaped with moss and weeds,
That Mother Nature alone plants and seeds.
They need no machines or autos too,
To travel their world in the waters blue,
They never see a cop stop and stare;
When they turn left or right - who cares?
I sometimes wonder what they think
When we place our hooks to drop and sink
Into their quiet and peaceful living
Without a warning we humans giving.
If we could live a life so sweet,
Wouldn’t our own world be complete?
(Written by Maurine, age 22, on a camping trip to Long Beach, California in 1937)
