Maxine Edith Dammann was born January 24, 1905, near El Paso, Texas. Her father was Maximilian Cooper; Maxine never knew her mother, as she died in childbirth and Maxine was raised by a housekeeper.

As a young woman, Maxine was united in marriage with Robert Watson. His job as a chef brought them to Boone, Iowa, and ultimately, to Manning. Mr. Watson died in 1940. Then Maxine was united in marriage with Ernest Dammann on November 7, 1942. They made their home in Manning and Maxine was in the restaurant business. For many years she worked for Bonita Hagedorn and later for Harvey Freese in the Virginia Cafe. She retired in the early 1970s.

In July of 1988 Maxine moved to the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. She enjoyed good health until three weeks ago when she broke her hip. She died at the Plaza on Sunday, October 8, 1995, at the age of 90 years, 8 months, and 14 days.

Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Robert Watson, and Ernest Dammann who died in 1975. She was also preceded in death by her twin brother, Max, who, as a young man, never returned from a cattle drive into Mexico.

Survivors include her daughter, Shirley and her husband, Clarence Lippert, of Des Moines; four grandchildren: Daniel, Suzanne, Patrick, and Michelle Lippert; a sister-in-law, Ella Dammann, of Humboldt; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Maxine was a member of the Cornerstone Church family in Manning and of the American Legion Auxiliary.
