Merlin Jurgensen was born February 27, 1923, at Manning, Iowa, son of Hans Jurgensen and Pauline Asmus. He died Sunday, July 1, 2001, at the Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa, at the age of seventy-eight.

He attended rural schools in Manning and Aspinwall. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church at Manning, Iowa.

On September 16, 1943 he married Irene Isaacs at the Lutheran Church in Arcadia, Iowa. To this union two children were born Gloria and Bonnie.
Merlin was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His special interests where his family, farming, yard work and gardening.

In addition to farming he worked for Manning Creamery Farm, Denison Seed Company and Pinkerton Company.

He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors include his wife, Irene of Denison; two daughters, Gloria Kuehnhold and special friend, Tom Austin of Denison; Bonnie and her husband, Duane Beyerink of Westside; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; one sister, Arlene Nissen of Des Moines, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 4, 2001, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Schleswig, Iowa. Rev. Merle Mahnken officiated the service and grave side rites held at the Manning Cemetery. Marlene Hight provided the organ accompaniment for congregational hymns "What a Friend We Have in Jesus", "Rock of Ages, Cleft for Me" and "Just as I Am, Without One Plea".

Pallbearers were Freddie Friedrichsen, Gaylen Jepsen, Steven Schmidt, Jim Schmidt, John Cassens and Allen Thams. The family invited everyone in attendance at the service to join them in fellowship and lunch at the church, served by the Ladies Aid. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.


Merlin Jurgensen is buried in the Manning City Cemetery
