Michael Ferneding

Funeral services for Michael Ferneding will be held Thursday, May 17, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Manning, Iowa. Officiating will be Reverend Patrick Sparling. Music will be provided by Tom and Susan Ulrickson. Casketbearers are Clark Tibben, Kent Hugeback, Kevin Hospelhorn, Gene Grade, Jay Drees, Joea Kemper, Scott Linde, Leroy Irlbeck, and In Memoriam - Mike Culligan. Honorary Casketbearers are all of Mike's nieces and nephews. Interment will be in the Manning Cemetery in Manning.

Michael W., son of Alvin and Rita (Dentlinger) Ferneding, was born September 2, 1955, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa. He grew up on a farm northwest of Templeton and attended Sacred Heart School in Templeton. He then attended Kemper High School, graduating with the Class of 1973. Mike completed a program in Ag Mechanics at Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs before starting to work for Puck Implement in Manning.

On July 24, 1982, Mike was united in marriage with Jean Adams at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Royal. They were the parents of two children and lived on a farm near Templeton. After ten years with Puck's, Mike started farming in the Templeton area, eventually doing custom work and seasonal work as a truck driver for Garst Seed Company at Mt. Carmel.

In his younger years Mike enjoyed participating in Figure 8 Racing. He developed a fondness for anything related to John Deere and took part in many antique tractor pullings and drives. For 12 years he was a 4-H Leader for the Aspinwall Achievers.

In June of 2004 Mike was diagnosed with a rare Parachordoma tumor. He endured surgery, radiation and chemotherapy, however the tumor returned and by September 2006 he was paralyzed. There were numerous hospitalizations before his death on Saturday, May 12, 2007, at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Ft. Dodge. He was 51 years, 8 months and 10 days of age.

Preceding Mike in death are his father Alvin and sister-in-law Nancy (Adams) Klinker.

He is survived by his wife Jean Ferneding of Manning; daughter Kelly Ferneding of Dallas, Texas; John Ferneding at home; mother Rita Ferneding of Templeton; siblings: Lonnie Ferneding and wife Betty of Manning; Gene Ferneding and wife Mary of Carroll; Mary Kay and husband Steve Schroeder of Kinsley; Jim Ferneding and wife Joyce of Manning; Jan McNaught of Omaha, Nebraska; Joni and husband Mike Warner of Manning and Mark Ferneding of Templeton; brother-in-law Ned Adams and wife Donna of Ankeny and parents-in-law Harry and Naomi Adams of Milford; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
