Mildred Elaine, daughter of Bert and Lydia (Alwill) Erb, was born January 10, 1922, near Manning, Iowa. She grew up on a farm in Shelby County and attended rural schools, graduating from Irwin High School. She then took Normal training at Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls.

On November 27, 1940, Mildred was united in marriage with John Leslie “Curly” Doyel in Carroll. In 1944 they moved to a farm in Audubon County which they later purchased in 1958. In 1979 they retired and moved into Manning.

Mildred was a member of the United Methodist Church in Manning. She enjoyed crocheting and was a very good cook and a neat housekeeper.

On September 23, 1997, Mildred entered the Manning Plaza Nursing Home, where she died Friday, July 9, 1999, due to complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. She reached the age of 77 years, 5 months and 30 days.

Mildred is preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law Elmer Doyel.

She is survived by her husband John Leslie Doyel of Manning; three sons: Kenneth Doyel and his wife Aleida of Pocatello, Idaho; Terry Doyel and his wife Linda of Columbia, South Carolina; John Doyel Jr. and his wife Pat of Newton; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; a brother Allyn Erb and his wife Leona of Manning; three sisters-in-law: Mildred and her husband Virgil Crouch of Irwin; Thelma and her husband Wade Mohr of Manning; Hazel Meggers of Council Bluffs; one brother-in-law George Doyel and his wife Barbara of Manning; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
