A MOTHER CALLED

After a lingering sickness of several months, Mrs. Henry Bartels was taken from her home on this earth to the home above where there is no sickness or suffering. Not-with-standing every medical care and attention was given her, she died on Tuesday, January 12th.

Wilhelmine "Mina" (Mrs. Henry) Bartels, nee Ebrecht, was born in Astermunzel, Germany, December 8th 1856, and died near Manning, Iowa, on January 12, 1914, aged 57 years, 1 month and 4 days. She came to Long Grove, Illinois with her mother in 1876. Later she moved to Luzerne, Iowa, where she was united in marriage to Henry Bartels. The wedding took place September 6, 1874.

To this union, nine children were born: George Bartels, of Benton, Iowa; Henry Bartels Jr., of Manning, Iowa; Lena (Mrs. Otto) Junge of Waterloo, Iowa; Emma Bartels, Alvira (Mrs. Fred) Maasen, Mrs. Gertrude Stuhr, Grover Bartels, Eddie and Esther Bartels, of Manning, Iowa. All were present at the funeral. One child died in infancy.

The deceased is survived by two brothers, George and August Ebrecht, of Sioux City, Iowa.

The funeral was held at the home, and at the German Lutheran Church, Rev. Johann Ansorge conducting the services. Mrs. Bartels was confirmed on the second day of April 1867. The funeral was a very large one. The church was packed with relatives and friends who gathered to pay their last sad respects to the departed one. The body was then taken to the Manning Cemetery where it was laid to rest until the Judgment Day when she will rise to meet again with her loved ones.



Mina Bartels is buried in the Manning City Cemetery.
