Minnie Margaret, daughter of Zada Johnson, was born October 28, 1908, in Manning, Iowa. She attended Manning Schools and graduated from Manning High School. On October 12, 1927, Minnie was united in marriage with Kenneth Earl Dales at Harlan, Iowa. Four children were born to this union.

At various times over the years she worked for her brother Eddie Johnson in his clothing store. Minnie and Kenneth farmed near Redline, Botna and Gray, Iowa. Minnie was primarily a homemaker. In 1973 they retired and moved into Manning. After they moved into Manning, Minnie worked at Baker’s Food Market. Kenneth died on January 22, 1991, and Minnie continued to live in their home.

Minnie was a member of the United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women’s Society. She was also a member of the Tri County Social Club and the American Legion Auxiliary.

In 1995 Minnie became a resident of the Manning Plaza Nursing Home. She died there on Saturday, January 1, 2000, at the age of 91 years, 2 months, and 4 days.

Besides her husband and mother, Minnie is preceded in death by her son Gary Lee Dales as a child and her son Kenneth Gene Dales; three grandchildren Ricky Gadsden, Rhoda Lynn Gadsden and Dwight Baum; and her brother Eddie Johnson.

She is survived by her children Mary Jane Johnston of Cottonwood, Arizona, and Nancy and her husband Kenneth Baum of Sardinia, Ohio; daughter-in-law Dorothy Dales of Manning; 8 grandchildren: William Gadsden and wife Patti; Roger Gadsden; Harvey Dales and wife Kathy; Corene and husband Joe Crouse; Leslie and husband Gary Berlinger; Velda and husband Mike Doyle; Terrie and husband Bob Weiland; and Duane Baum and wife Patti; 19 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, other relatives and friends.
