Mrs. Minnie Kienast was born October 21, 1879, to Henrich and Augusta Ruttunda in Pommern, Germany, where she was also baptized. In the early eighties her parents came to this country and settled at May City, Iowa. There as a girl she had the privilege of attending Christian day school in preparation to her confirmation. In 1904 she was united in holy wedlock to William Riechman and lived at Lowden, Iowa.

Mr. Riechman died in September 1907 at Denver. To this marriage were born two children, William and Edna Augusta. William resides in Los Angeles, and Edna (Mrs. Adolf Dozier) of Lincoln Township. In visits to the sister (Mrs. Otto Rudnick) of her deceased husband, she became acquainted with Mr. August Kienast, married him at Lowden, on August 13, 1911, and lived with him in Lincoln Township until her death on the evening of January 23, 1940.

To this union were born eight children, Arthur of Lincoln Township, Harry of Denver, Colorado, Hulda (Mrs. Leonard Elsberry), Selma (Mrs. Virgil Elsberry), Hugo, at home, Lillian of Montivideo, Minnesota, Milda of Clarinda and Annie at home. Her step-children are Herman and John Kienast of Lincoln Township, Mrs. Carl Johnson, Mrs. Elsie Jamieson, and Mrs. Ida Schuester all of Sioux City, and Mrs. Mary Jaeger of Baltimore, Maryland. Surviving her, besides her husband, children and step-children, are her mother, Augusta Rottunda of May City, a sister, Mrs. John Jurgemeyer of May City, a brother, Max Rottunda of Granite Falls, Minnesota. She boasted 27 grandchildren; 9 of them, children of her children, and 18, children of her step-children.

Services were attended by all of her children and near-relatives with the exception of Mrs. Mary Jaeger of Baltimore; William her son living in Los Angeles; and Carl Kienast of Columbus, Kansas, brother of Mr. and Mrs. August Kienast.

Pallbearers were: Albert David, William Schultz, Gustav Ress, Jacob Bald, August Jurgens, and Carl Borkowski, Sr.

Attending the services, coming from a distance, besides relatives were Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Otterbein, of May City; Mrs. Kermit Rasmussen, Marvin Jurgemeyer, and Mrs. Ray Stamp of Ocheyedan; Mr. and Mrs. Wilburt Wagoner, Arnold Wagoner, Mr. and Mrs. Lee Field of Clarinda; and Mr. and Mrs. William Achelbein and son August of Charter Oak.

As her health permitted she was a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and its Ladies' Aid Society. Her good advice and sound Christian judgement will long be remembered.
