The obituary of Myrtle Ehrichs, Moody County Enterprise, October 25, 1989
Funeral services were held Monday, October 23 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Flandreau, South Dakota, for Myrtle A. Ehrichs, 86, who died Thursday, October 19 at Riverview Manor Nursing Home. Pastors Lloyd Miller and Cynthia Gray officiated at the services.
Mrs. Ehrichs, daughter of Lars and Anna (Johnson) Larson, was born February 22, 1903, on a farm near Sherman. She started her education in rural Minnehaha County schools and graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls in 1920. She then enrolled at U.S.D. for two years. After teaching junior high school English for four years, Myrtle returned to U.S.D. for her degree, graduating in 1928. She taught English at Carthage High School until 1935 when she came to Flandreau where she taught junior and senior English. She was married June 20, 1940, at Garretson to Edward Ehrichs. Myrtle and Eddie owned and operated The Gambles Store in Flandreau until 1969 when they sold the business and retired.
She was a member of the Flandreau School Board for 12 years, the Flandreau Library Board for 30 years, a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, W.E.L.C.A. and the Tri Delt Social Sorority.
She is survived by her husband, Edward, Flandreau; a son, Dr. Larry Ehrichs, Aurora, Colorado; 3 grandchildren, Edward, Elizabeth and John; 2 sisters, Lou, Mrs. Leland Aase, Prescott, Arizona, and Ethel, Mrs. V.E. Sherburne, Pierre.
She was preceded in death by her parents and 2 sisters. Interment was in Union Cemetery.
