Orville Gene, son of Herbert and Freda (Nulle) Hinze of rural Arcadia, was born May 22, 1930, at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll. His ailing mother died in 1933, so he most remembered his stepmother, Margaret (Struve Coleman) Hinze.

Orville attended Washington No. 5 Country School through the eighth grade, then graduated from Manning High School in 1948. On May 4, 1950, he was united in marriage with his high school sweetheart, Iva Jean Mohr in the Manning Presbyterian Church with Reverend Harlan Kruse officiating. They celebrated 67 years of marriage with many happy occasions and trips. Orville was a baptized and confirmed lifelong member and past trustee of the Manning Presbyterian Church, a Past Master and 65-year member of the Manual Masonic Lodge with a dual membership in the Carroll Signet Lodge. He was a past member of the Sioux City Consistory, a longtime member of both the Farm Bureau and Woodmen of the World Fraternity and part of the Homemakers Past Presidents Club. He was an AARP and RSVP member. After retirement, Orville and Iva enjoyed the Good Sam, Cutty's and Coast to Coast camping clubs. In the 26 years since acquiring their first motor home in 1988, they enjoyed visiting family, main attractions in every state, including Alaska; across Canada, Nova Scotia and Mexico. Hawaii was a special anniversary flight. They also took a cruise through the Panama Canal, visiting countries along the way. Besides spending time with family, Orville's interests included watching over the farms, Canada fishing trips, and playing cards with friends.

The family Century Farm was home to Orville for 66 years, including a few years on an acquired farm across the road from the home place. He was a life-long farmer, remaining on the farm after retirement until moving to Carroll in 1996. He was awarded a Conservation Award in 1987. Together, the Hinzes maintained a large Grade A dairy herd for many years. They also maintained the general livestock and farming operation. For a few post retirement years, Orville was a part time seasonal truck driver for local businesses.

He entered Hawkeye Care Center in November of 2014 after a fall on his farm. His interests focused around playing cards and dominoes with friends. Orville died Saturday, January 6, 2018, at Accura Health Care Center, Carroll, Iowa. He was 87 years, seven months, and fifteen days of age.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents, his only sibling, Pearl Hinze, step mother, parents in law Henry and Lillian Mohr, siblings in law Roy and Marilyn Whited, Wade and Thelma Mohr and their son Scott, Wayne Schroeder; Ron DeWillers, and Julius Hoffman.

Left to mourn are his beloved wife, Iva Hinze of Carroll; son Ronald Hinze and wife Patti of Cedar Grove, Wisconsin; two daughters, Kathy and husband Dan Keller of Adel, and Joni Jacobson of Minneapolis, Minnesota; eight grandchildren and their spouses, and great-grandchildren: David Keller, Adam and Allison, and his wife Heather Keller, Taylor and Avery; Suzanne Keller; Kenneth and Nichole Keller, Rachael and Laurean; Melissa and Jason Krause, Jack, Tessa, and Theodore; Chad and Kristin Hinze; Nathan and Ashley Hinze, Reese and Lena Mae; Deborah and Carl Flink; Kathryn and Corey Jensen, Alexa and Breanna; two step-sisters, Shirley DeWillers of Dryden, Washington, and Ellen Hoffman of Wheaton, Illinois, and her son Michael of Exira; sisters and brothers-in-law Lila Schroeder of Manning and Marjorie and husband John Whited of Carroll; other relatives and friends.
