Orville Henry Kerkhoff, the son of Alphons and Frances (Bluml) Kerkhoff, was born March 6, 1927, at his parents' home south of Templeton, Iowa, and died April 22, 2003, at his home northwest of Audubon, Iowa, at the age of 76 years, 1 month, and 16 days.

Orville was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School, and then helped operate the family farm.

On December 29, 1948, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Kasperbauer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manning, Iowa. They were blessed with eight children. Orville's greatest joys were his children and his nineteen grandchildren. Over the past 35 years, he and Dorothy welcomed many people into their home. They came from England, France, Germany, Sweden, Russia, Korea, Panama, India, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, Denmark, and Uganda. He enjoyed traveling and visiting friends and relatives in the United States and overseas.

Orville and Dorothy farmed in Audubon County, moving to their present home in 1965. Orville had continued to farm with his sons, Mark and Blane. He had been a hail adjuster for Square Deal Hail Insurance Company for many years. Orville was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, serving as a trustee for several years. He was an honorary life-time member of the Audubon and Exira Knights of Columbus.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents and his brother-in-law, Francis Tunink.
