Orville Kroeger
Orville Otto, son of Henry and Margaret (Erdman) Kroeger, was born September 25, 1918, at home on a farm near Arcadia, Iowa. He attended rural schools near Arcadia. On April 7, 1934, Orville was baptized at Wheatland Presbyterian Church where he was also confirmed.

On January 3, 1945, Orville was united in marriage with Virgene Kruse in Omaha, Nebraska. For three years, Orville and Virgene lived near Sac City where Orville worked for a cattle feeder. They then returned to farming near Westside. On October 17, 1952, Orville joined Zion Lutheran Church in Arcadia.

In 1978, Orville and Virgene moved to a farm near Manning. In 1985, Orville retired from farming and they moved into Manning, where they joined Zion Lutheran Church. Orville thoroughly enjoyed farming and fishing.

On Thursday, December 2, 1999, Orville entered St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll, where he died Friday, December 10, following a lengthy illness. He reached the age of 81 years, 2 months, and 15 days.

Besides his parents, Orville is preceded in death by a brother Gilbert Kroeger; two sisters: Leota Kroeger and Janine Kroeger; four brothers-in-law: Claude Tounget, Melvin Wilken, Bob Hinners and Leland Kienast; a sister-in-law Genelle Kienast; two nephews: Michael Hargens and Gary Kroeger; and two nieces: Donna Keairnes and Karen Tripp.

Orville is survived by his wife Virgene Kroeger of Manning, three sisters: Erma Tounget of Wall Lake; Inez Wilken of Westside; Juanita and her husband Don Hargens of Brayton; three sisters-in-law: Elaine Kroeger of Vail, and Neva Hinners and Marla Kienast, both of Manning; and by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Note: Orville's nickname was affectionately known as "Big O"
