Patrick Hickey

With regret we announce the sudden death of Patrick H. Hickey by a paralytic stroke on Saturday evening, May 24th at 7 o'clock. It was a severe shock on the heart-stricken family to see a fond husband and loving father who had just arrived home from town with a grist of flour that evening feeling all right, and in a few hours to be a corpse. What dreadful news it was! Mr. Hickey was about 62 years of age and was born in County, Kildare, Ireland. He emigrated when quite young to this country, like many more of his countrymen, away from British tyranny to seek a home in a free land. He was one of the pioneer settlers of Delaware County, Iowa, and moved to Crawford County about eight years ago where he has since resided. Mr. Hickey was a man of good moral character, generous and charitable if a poor man met with a loss, and was the first man to lend a helping hand. He was well thought of by all his neighbors in Delaware and Crawford Counties. His funeral took place on Monday the 26th, and was very largely attended, the procession being over a mile long. The remains were interred in the Roman Catholic Cemetery at Vail. May his soul rest in peace.
